“Gretchen Whitmer Calls Trump ‘Deranged’ Over Abortion Comments”

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) sharply criticized former President Donald Trump on Sunday, labeling him as “just deranged” after he suggested that women would not be concerned about abortion if he were elected in November.

In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Whitmer, who co-chairs the Harris-Walz campaign, described Trump’s remarks as “ludicrous.” She emphasized that he fails to grasp the daily challenges women face, saying, “This guy just doesn’t understand what the average woman is confronting in her life in this country, and how could he? He’s not lived a normal life.”

Whitmer contrasted Trump with Vice President Kamala Harris, noting that Harris has experience working hourly jobs and understands the importance of healthcare access for women.

During a rally on Saturday, Trump claimed, “Women will be happy, healthy, confident and free. You will no longer be thinking about abortion.” He argued that women’s happiness would stem from the issue being returned to state control.

Trump reiterated similar sentiments in a Friday post on his Truth Social platform, suggesting that women would be better off under his presidency. This followed a speech by Harris in Georgia, where she addressed the pain experienced by women in states with abortion bans, attributing their suffering to Republican policies.

In response, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung criticized Democrats for their “hateful rhetoric.” He stated, “Kamala Harris and liberal Democrats are the ones who are deranged,” and claimed that violent rhetoric from Democrats has incited attacks against Trump, calling their actions “disgusting and abhorrent.” Cheung demanded an apology from Democrats for their comments, warning that continued hostility could lead to further violence.
